mona

today i went to coffee bean in sf.  i ordered two drinks, gave my name as"darren" and patiently waited.  about 3 minutes later, i hear the barista call "mona".  of course i ignore it thinking it wasn't my order.  she calls out "mona" again along with the drink order.  recognizing the drink order, i went up to see if there had been a mix up with the names.  there was no mistake.  apparently my name is "mona".  awesome.

what is the worst misinterpretation of your name at starbucks, coffee bean, pete's coffee, etc.

big red button

so i finally have hot water in my apt.  that was the last thing i needed to set up.  the landlord had to come to light the pilot today after mo and i failed to do so on saturday night.  i asked him to help because earlier in the day when i was going to do it myself, i noticed there was a big red button on the water heater.  now when i think of a big red button, i think of a button that will set off a bomb, launch a missile, stop a nuclear meltdown, etc (maybe this has something to do with the fact that i have watched the kingdom twice in the past week).  so the combination of a big red button and gas freaked me out a little bit, haha.  anyways, when i asked mo to help me out, i said something like, "if worse comes to worse, we'll accidentally blow-up the apt BUT then we'll be able to worship God 24/7 in heaven so no worries, right?"  "right," he says.  so we attempted to light it, pushed the big red button a bunch of times, but alas, we couldnt light the pilot which equaled darren still had to take a shower at mo's place downstairs.  but no longer will that be case because tonight, i will take a shower in my own apt.

goodbye couch

after a month of living on mo's couch, i have to say goodbye.  it was a good couch, not too soft but not too firm either.  i finally moved the 50 ft across the courtyard and up the stairs to my place.  i went shopping for apt stuff like a shower curtain, paper towels, pot holders, etc.  as i was looking for bath mats for the bathroom, i noticed that places dont sell the accompanying mat for the toilet.  i thought that was so weird.  none at target, tj max, ross or marshall.  what gives?!?!  do ppl not like to have a mat around the toilet anymore?  i'm still holding out hope that i will be able to find a place that sells both the bath mat and toilet mat (i gotta buy them at the same time to make sure the colors match, hah).

worst traffic moment:  1 hour and 50 minutes to go 20.5 miles.  wonderful.

monopoly

monopoly is my favorite board game.  i remember playing it with my parents when i was in elementary school.  i also played it a lot with chris and his little sister when we were in middle school.  what a great game.  it teaches a player how to invest your money (which properties to buy, when to build houses/hotels, etc.) and how to make a deal (when you need to trade properties/money to another player in order to get that last property you need to have a monopoly).  over the weekend i wound up playing a lot of monopoly with my 6 and 8 year old 2nd cousins (i think that's what you call my cousin's kids).  they definitely got into it and let me tell you it is not easy trying to make a deal with 6 and 8 year olds, haha.  anyways, it was fun, brought back old memories, good family time.  o yea, they beat me every time we played, greaaat.
